BMC Corporators’ ₹1 Lakh Honorarium Demand Triggers Political Opposition

BMC Corporators’ ₹1 Lakh Honorarium Demand Triggers Political Opposition

A Mumbai city council member wants corporators to receive more money each month.

The proposed increase would raise their honorarium from ₹25,000 to ₹1 lakh.

She said prices and the amount of work have increased since the last raise in 2017.

Several political groups do not support giving corporators more personal compensation.

They say city funds should be used for public projects instead.

They would prefer increasing each corporator’s ward development fund from ₹60 lakh to ₹1 crore.

Another corporator previously suggested staff and travel allowances, pensions and office space.

The proposal will likely be discussed at the next BMC general body meeting.
