APPCB Urges Nellore Rice Millers to Install Dust Controls
A pollution-control official spoke with rice mill owners in Nellore.
He said rice mills must control dust from their boilers to help protect people’s health.
So far, 33 of 64 mill owners have installed the required equipment, according to the official.
He told owners not to run boilers before installing it.
He also warned that mills that break the rules could be penalized.
The local rice millers’ association said it would help make sure all mills install the equipment.
APPCB Environmental Engineer Ashok Kumar urged all rice millers in Nellore district to follow pollution-control norms.
He said millers should not operate boilers until required dust-control equipment is installed.
Only 33 of the district’s 64 rice mill owners had responded to directives by installing the equipment.
Kumar warned that violations could lead to penalties under Central Pollution Control Board guidelines.
