Hong Kong's 'The Last Dance' Breaks Box Office Records
'The Last Dance' is a Hong Kong movie that has become very popular.
It's about a man who plans weddings but starts planning funerals instead.
The movie shows a special ritual called 'Break Hell's Gate' and talks about life and death.
It has made a lot of money, more than any other Hong Kong movie.
The director, Chan Mou Yin Anselm, says the movie is about things that everyone can relate to, not just action like many Hong Kong movies.
It has done well not just in Hong Kong but also in other countries like the UK and the US.
The movie is seen as a new start for Hong Kong films, which have had a hard time since the pandemic.
'The Last Dance' is Hong Kong's highest-grossing local film, earning over $20M (HK$161M) upon release.
The film follows a debt-ridden wedding planner who finds success as a funeral planner and must win the respect of a traditional Taoist priest.
Director Chan Mou Yin Anselm was inspired by a family member's funeral and the 'Break Hell's Gate' ritual, which traditionally excludes women.
The film has grossed over $800,000 (GBP620,000) in the UK, making it the third highest-grossing Hong Kong film there.
The success of 'The Last Dance' is seen as a sign of a new wave in the Hong Kong film industry, moving beyond the typical action genre.
