Nurpur Villagers Seek Action on Closed Railway Crossing
Imagine a road that goes over a train track.
This road crossing has been closed for a long time, since 2013, in a place called Nurpur.
Because it's closed, about 18,000 people have to go a lot farther to get where they need to go, like school or the doctor.
People are asking for a way to get the road open again, like building a special under-road tunnel.
The local leader is now trying to help by talking to the people in charge of the trains, hoping to find a solution to get the road open again soon.
A railway crossing in Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh, has been closed since December 2013.
The closure affects over 18,000 residents in several villages of Nurpur subdivision.
Villagers have been demanding the construction of an LHS or gateless crossing.
The closure has disrupted essential services and increased travel distances.
The local MP has taken up the matter with the Ministry of Railways.
