SC Grants Interim Bail to 2019 Gadchiroli Blast Accused
The Supreme Court of India has given temporary bail to a businessman named Kailash Ramchandani, who is accused of helping Naxals in a blast that killed 16 people, including 15 policemen, in Gadchiroli, Maharashtra, in 2019.
The court said he can leave jail but must stay in his hometown and follow certain rules, like reporting to the police regularly and not contacting any witnesses or co-accused.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) argued against this bail, saying Ramchandani was very involved in the attack.
The court decided to give him bail partly because the trial has been delayed for a long time, and Ramchandani has been in jail since 2019.
The court also warned that if Ramchandani violates any of the bail conditions, his bail would be cancelled.
The Supreme Court granted interim bail to businessman Kailash Ramchandani, accused in the 2019 Gadchiroli blast case that killed 16 people, including 15 security personnel.
Ramchandani must stay in Gadchiroli, report to the police regularly, attend trial proceedings in Mumbai, and not contact any witnesses or co-accused.
The NIA opposed the bail, alleging Ramchandani's key role in the attack and claiming the trial is ongoing with 146 witnesses proposed, only one examined.
The court highlighted the delay in trial proceedings, stating that the lack of special courts under the NIA Act and other special statutes is causing inordinate delays.
Ramchandani's bail plea was granted despite the NIA's opposition, with strict conditions to prevent any violation of bail terms.
