Vijay Urges PM to Freeze Lok Sabha Seats at 543

Mr. Vijay is the leader of the government in a big state in India called Tamil Nadu.

He wants India's Parliament, known as the Lok Sabha, to keep the same number of seats forever.

That number is 543, and it is based on how many people lived in India back in 1971.

Mr. Vijay worries that if seats were given out using newer population numbers, states like Tamil Nadu that kept their population from growing too fast could lose seats.

He also wants one out of every three seats in Parliament to be reserved for women, starting with the elections in 2029.

His plan was approved by the Tamil Nadu Assembly on August 12, 2026, with help from many political groups.

Some groups, like the AIADMK, PMK and BJP, voted against it, but the resolution still passed.

After that, Mr. Vijay wrote a letter to India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, asking him to change the Constitution so the seat numbers stay the same.

He reminded everyone that Tamil Nadu lost seats once before, back in 1967.

That is why he wants the old rules to be kept forever.
