Trump Appoints John Coale as Special Envoy to Belarus for Prisoner Releases
President Trump has picked a special helper named John Coale to go to Belarus.
This helper, who used to be one of Trump's lawyers, is good at getting people out of jail.
He helped get 100 people freed before, and Trump wants him to try and get 50 more people released.
Trump thanked the leader of Belarus, President Lukashenko, for possibly letting these people go.
Belarus had already let some people out in September, and this was partly thanks to Coale meeting with their leader.
Coale also helped get some sanctions lifted on Belarus's airline.
He is also involved in helping with the situation in Ukraine.
Coale has been asked by the US government to meet with the Belarusian leader to make the relationship between the two countries better.
He has a unique background, including a sailing trip that ended with his boat sinking.
President Trump has appointed John Coale as his special envoy to Belarus.
Coale's role will be to press for the release of additional detainees in Belarus.
Trump cited Coale's previous success in negotiating the release of 100 prisoners and stated he is aiming for an additional 50.
Trump thanked Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko for considering the release of these individuals.
The US has increased diplomatic outreach to Belarus, with Coale previously involved in negotiations leading to prisoner releases and the lifting of sanctions on Belarus's state airline.
