Andhra Pradesh Closes Schools in Six Districts Amid Deep Depression
Heavy rain is expected in parts of Andhra Pradesh.
A deep depression is moving across the Bay of Bengal toward the coast.
Because of this, schools and Anganwadi centres are closed in six districts on September 23.
The six districts are in northern coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Officials are preparing for flooding in vulnerable places.
Disaster-response teams have been sent to help if needed.
Strong winds are also expected near the coast.
The weather system is expected to cross the coast as a deep depression, not as Cyclone Arnab.
Schools and Anganwadi centres closed September 23 in six north-coastal Andhra Pradesh districts.
The affected districts are Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitharama Raju and Anakapalle.
The India Meteorological Department said the deep depression was moving westward over the Bay of Bengal toward the Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coast.
The system was expected to cross between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur near Kalingapatnam by Wednesday night.
Authorities cancelled employee leave and deployed State Disaster Response Force teams because of possible heavy rain and flooding.
