NCW Launches 24/7 Helpline for Women in Crisis
The National Commission for Women (NCW) in India has started a new 24/7 helpline number, 14490, to help women who are in trouble.
This number is easy to remember and free to call.
Women can use it to get help if they are facing problems like violence, harassment, or discrimination.
The helpline is staffed by trained counselors who can help women deal with their problems and guide them on what to do next.
The NCW also works to make sure women's rights are protected and that they can participate equally in all parts of life.
In 2023, there were about 4.5 lakh crimes against women reported in India, with Delhi being the most unsafe city for women and Uttar Pradesh having the highest number of cases.
NCW launched a 24/7 toll-free helpline (14490) for women in distress.
The helpline connects to NCW’s existing helpline (7827170170) for immediate support.
Professionally trained psychological counsellors staff the helpline to assist with trauma and complaints.
