Sebi Seeks Clarity on Anil Agarwal's Role in Sterlite Electric IPO
Anil Agarwal, the founder of the Vedanta Group, is named as a promoter for Sterlite Electric Ltd, even though he doesn't own any shares directly.
The Indian market regulator, Sebi, wants more details on how he is connected to the company and who really controls it.
They also want to know why some of Agarwal's relatives are not cooperating with the IPO process.
Sterlite Electric is trying to go public to raise money, but this issue has delayed their plans.
The company says they are working with Sebi to answer all the questions.
This is not the first time Sterlite Electric has tried to go public; they withdrew a previous IPO attempt in 2021 due to market conditions.
Sebi has asked Sterlite Electric to explain Anil Agarwal's role as a promoter despite his zero direct equity stake.
Twin Star Overseas, a Mauritius-based entity, holds 69.46% of Sterlite Electric's pre-IPO equity and is the only promoter selling shares.
Five of Agarwal's in-laws have refused to be identified as part of the promoter group, delaying the IPO process.
Sterlite Electric's IPO was put on hold in October 2025, and Sebi is still awaiting clarifications as of January 2026.
The company previously withdrew an IPO attempt in 2021 due to market volatility, with no issues of non-cooperating individuals at that time.
