Uttam Kumar’s Final Day Ends Bengali Cinema’s Greatest Era

Uttam Kumar’s Final Day Ends Bengali Cinema’s Greatest Era

Uttam Kumar was one of Bengal’s most famous movie stars.

On 23 July 1980, he was filming his last major unfinished role in Ogo Bodhu Shundori.

He felt upset after his favorite tape recorder was stolen.

During a scene, he sweated heavily and needed seven attempts to say his lines.

He then felt pain in his chest but continued working.

Later that evening, the pain came back, so he drove to a hospital.

He seemed better for a short time, but his condition became worse overnight.

He died in the early hours of 24 July, and the film was finished using a body double and additional dubbing.
