8th Pay Commission Estimates Show Potential Salary Hikes

8th Pay Commission Estimates Show Potential Salary Hikes

The 8th Pay Commission is studying how much central government employees and pensioners should be paid.

It is speaking with employee groups, pensioners’ associations and other organisations.

One important number is called the fitment factor.

This number is multiplied by a person’s current basic pay to estimate new basic pay.

Some pensioner groups want a high factor of 3.83.

Experts have suggested lower estimates, especially between 1.83 and 2.00.

For example, a Level 1 basic salary of ₹18,000 could become ₹32,940 or ₹36,000 under those two factors.

These figures are only estimates because the commission has not made a final decision.

The government must approve the commission’s recommendations before they take effect.
