Vizag Resident Groups Protest Property Tax Hike Proposals
Imagine you own a house in Vizag.
The government is thinking about increasing the tax you pay on your house, called property tax.
Some groups of people who live in apartments and colonies are not happy about this.
They gathered to protest near a government building, asking the government not to increase the taxes.
They believe the government should stop using property tax and go back to using the house tax instead.
They also mentioned that the values of houses and plots have already gone up recently, and taxes have already increased by 15% this year, with another potential increase of at least 20% on the horizon.
Resident welfare bodies protested property tax increase proposals near the GVMC office.
Protesters demanded the government withdraw the proposed property tax increases.
The protesters urged the Chief Minister to honor his election promise to review the property tax system.
They are seeking abolition of the property tax in favor of the house tax policy.
Property taxes increased by 15% in April, with a potential increase of at least 20% in June.
