CAG Flags Financial Irregularities in Odisha School Transformation
The Odisha government started a programme in 2021 to improve high schools.
The Comptroller and Auditor General, or CAG, checked how the programme money was used.
The audit looked at schools in six districts.
It found that some money may have been used improperly.
One private school received money even though it was not eligible.
The audit also suspected that funds were misappropriated at two government schools.
It found a payment for desk repairs that were falsely claimed.
Some schools also received duplicate digital content or had classrooms and laboratories that could not work properly.
The CAG reported financial irregularities in Odisha’s 5T High School Transformation Programme.
The audit covered records from six districts: Balasore, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jajpur, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.
Rs 57.95 lakh was reportedly spent on an ineligible private school in Badachana.
The audit suspected misappropriation of Rs 12.48 lakh in Cuttack and Rs 30 lakh in Jajpur.
The CAG also cited a fraudulent Rs 4.95 lakh repair payment, duplicate e-content procurement worth Rs 7.39 crore and non-functional facilities in 54 schools.
