Committee Urges AP to Build Medical Colleges Instead of NTR Statue
A group in Andhra Pradesh is asking the government to use the money planned for a big statue of a former leader to build medical colleges instead.
They say the state needs more hospitals and doctors, not expensive statues.
The group pointed out that the government has already spent a lot of money on another big building and that the state has borrowed a lot of money.
They think the statue money could build seven new medical colleges.
They also mentioned that a similar plan in another state was rejected by the courts.
Government Medical Colleges Protection Committee urges AP government to use Rs 1,750 crore for medical colleges instead of NTR statue.
Proposed statue is a 600-foot, 3,500-ton bronze statue at Neerukonda in the capital region.
Committee criticizes the government for prioritizing the statue over essential sectors like healthcare.
Former CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had earlier built a lavish building at Rushikonda for Rs 500 crore, which could have funded two medical colleges.
Committee suggests that the Rs 1,750 crore could complete seven government medical colleges.
