Mumbai Slum Survey Progresses with Biometric Data Collection

The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) in Mumbai has been working on a big project to count all the homes in slum areas and collect important information like fingerprints from the people living there.

They have checked 8,84,368 homes so far, and 6,10,382 of these homes have given their biometric data.

The SRA thinks there might be as many as 13 lakh slum homes in the city.

The survey started in 2016 and was supposed to finish by the end of 2025, but it will now continue into 2026 because there are still more slums to cover.

Some people in the slums don't want to give their information, which makes the job harder.

The survey helps the SRA decide who can get new homes and start projects to improve the slums.

They use special companies to help with the survey, and they have already checked many homes on different types of land.

Some areas, like those owned by the central government or the railways, are not included in the survey.
