Rabi sowing area to exceed last year
The government thinks that this year, more land will be used for growing winter crops like wheat compared to last year.
The Agriculture Secretary, Devesh Chaturvedi, said that because of good rain and some late harvesting, farmers are planting more wheat, pulses, and oilseeds.
As of November 17, more land has been used for these crops than last year.
For example, 66.23 lakh hectares are used for wheat this year, which is more than the 56.55 lakh hectares last year.
Similarly, more land is used for pulses and oilseeds.
Overall, 208.19 lakh hectares are used for all rabi crops this year, which is more than the 188.73 lakh hectares last year.
Rabi sowing area is expected to exceed last year's 655.88 lakh hectares.
