Maharashtra Police File FIR Over AI‑Morphed Videos Targeting Modi, Goyal
A woman who works for the BJP in Maharashtra saw a video on Facebook that looked like it showed the Prime Minister and a minister saying bad things.
She said the video was fake and had been changed with computer tricks.
The police made a formal complaint and started looking into the people who shared the video.
They are checking Facebook and Instagram accounts that posted it.
The police want to stop the spread of false and hateful messages that could upset people.
Maharashtra Cyber Police registered an FIR after a BJP social media coordinator reported AI‑morphed videos of PM Narendra Modi and Minister Piyush Goyal circulating online.
The complaint alleges the videos falsely depict Goyal saying “These cockroaches should be hanged in public” and contain hateful remarks aimed at provoking unrest.
The FIR cites sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act, and the police are tracing the Facebook and Instagram accounts that shared the content.
The investigation also targets posts that defame Modi and other constitutional officials, with evidence being collected from social media platforms.
The case follows student protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party, during which the original footage was allegedly altered before being posted.
