Court Orders Reports on Poll Workers' Conditions
The Calcutta High Court has asked the Election Commission and the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) to submit reports.
This is because some LIC employees who are working for the elections are worried that their regular jobs might be affected.
The court wants to make sure that these employees are not penalized for doing election work.
The reports are due in two weeks, and the court will hear the matter again on February 26.
Calcutta High Court directed the Election Commission and LIC to file reports on the impact of election work on LIC employees' service conditions.
LIC field workers expressed concerns that their service conditions and targets might be affected due to election-related work.
The court ordered the submission of affidavits from both the Election Commission and LIC within two weeks.
LIC employees have been requisitioned for election work, with 1,210 employees currently involved.
The next hearing on the matter is scheduled for February 26, 2024.
