Portugal Expands Marine Protection with New Protected Area
Portugal is creating a new protected area in the ocean to help marine life.
This announcement was made during a big meeting where countries are talking about how to protect the oceans.
Portugal is already protecting a lot of its sea, and this new area will make even more of it safe.
The protected area will help connect different parts of the ocean and give a safe home to animals like turtles and sharks.
Portugal announced a new protected marine area around the Gorringe Ridge in the Atlantic Ocean.
The new marine protected area (MPA) will increase Portugal's protected seas to at least 27%.
This announcement coincided with the third UN Oceans conference in Nice, France.
