Renewable Energy Expansion Fails to Significantly Curb Fossil Fuels
Even though we're building more solar and wind farms (renewable energy), we're still burning a lot of coal, oil, and gas (fossil fuels).
More power is needed around the world, so even though we're using some cleaner energy, we're still using more dirty energy too.
This means we're not cutting down on the pollution that causes global warming.
It's not as simple as swapping one for the other.
Rapid expansion of renewable energy capacity has not translated into substantial reductions in fossil fuel use globally.
In 2024, renewable energy capacity increased by 15% globally.
Fossil fuel use is still increasing despite the growth in renewables.
Renewables generate almost 30% of the world’s electricity.
Greenhouse gas emissions have reached historic levels in recent years.
