NHRC Acts on Ratnagiri School Pollution Complaint
Students from an Urdu school in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, have complained about pollution from nearby bauxite mining.
They say the dust and noise from mining trucks are making them sick and disrupting their classes.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken up their complaint and asked local authorities to investigate.
The students want the mining activities near their school to stop, especially during school hours.
They also want an independent check of the pollution levels.
The authorities have two weeks to report back to the NHRC.
The students believe the mining is too close to their school and is harming their health and education.
NHRC has taken cognisance of a complaint by Ratnagiri Urdu school students about dust and noise pollution from nearby bauxite mining.
The complaint alleges violations of fundamental rights, including the right to health and education, due to mining operations.
NHRC has directed the Ratnagiri District Magistrate and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board to submit reports within two weeks.
Students seek immediate halt to mining transportation near the school during school hours and an independent pollution inspection.
The mining boundary is reportedly just 100 meters from the school, raising safety and environmental concerns.
