India Begins Building Indigenous Hovercraft for Coast Guard
India is building new hovercrafts for its Coast Guard.
These boats are being built in India using local expertise.
The hovercrafts, designed by Griffon Hoverwork, can travel quickly over both water and land.
This helps the Coast Guard patrol the coast, and respond to emergencies.
This project supports the government's goal of making India more self-reliant in defense, boosting its ability to protect its maritime borders.
The construction began in Goa.
Construction of the first indigenously-built Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has begun in Goa.
The ACVs, based on Griffon Hoverwork designs, are being built with Indian expertise.
A contract was signed in 2024 for six ACVs.
The ACVs will provide enhanced speed and flexibility for maritime operations.
