Indian Stock Markets Decline for Second Consecutive Day
Imagine the stock market as a place where small pieces of companies, called shares, are bought and sold.
On Friday, India's main stock market indexes, the Sensex and Nifty, went down for the second day in a row, finishing close to their lowest points of the day.
This happened even though the market tried to recover a bit at the start.
Some groups of stocks, like those in the power, metal, and media industries, went down.
However, public sector bank stocks and some individual companies like Bharat Electronics did well.
Many companies' shares were bought and sold a lot, and some reached new highs while others hit new lows.
The reason for the overall drop seems to be a general sense of caution from what's happening globally and a mix of company results that weren't all good.
Indian stock market benchmarks Sensex and Nifty 50 closed lower for the second consecutive day, ending near the day's low.
The Sensex fell 465.75 points to 83,938.71, and the Nifty 50 declined 155.75 points to 25,722.10.
Mixed global cues, cautious sentiment, and profit-taking amid varied corporate earnings contributed to the market's decline.
While PSU Bank index rose, power, metal, and media sectors saw declines; IT, private bank, and healthcare indices also dropped.
Bharat Electronics was the top performer, while Eternal and NTPC were among the biggest losers.
