Why Local Design Makes for More Meaningful Homes
Imagine designing your home with a special touch, like using local styles instead of generic ones.
AI tools sometimes create spaces that look the same everywhere.
However, using things from your own culture and area, like local materials or styles, makes your home unique and interesting, like the way Art Deco was changed in India.
It is like buying food from a local farm.
It is also about finding furniture that fits you.
AI-generated design tools often lack cultural and geographical context, leading to generic spaces.
Design platforms show increasing popularity of locally inspired design, such as puja rooms and Indian-themed interiors.
Buying locally sourced items for home design can be more interesting and cost-effective than purchasing generic items.
Art Deco's adaptation in India showcases how design can be reshaped by local contexts, e.g., kolams or Chettinad style.
Incorporating imperfect, story-filled objects creates homes with memory and a sense of lived experience.
