Tipra Motha Wins Most Seats in Tripura Village Committee Polls
People in tribal areas of Tripura voted for representatives in local Village Committees.
Tipra Motha Party won the most seats, with the BJP finishing second.
The Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura, the CPI (M), Congress and independent candidates also won seats.
Some seats were decided without a vote because only one candidate or party contested.
The committees are local governing bodies in areas overseen by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
The election took place on September 28, and counting began on Monday.
Officials announced the final results early on Tuesday.
The chief minister said the outcome showed support for the BJP-led alliance, while Tipra Motha’s leader said the result restored grassroots power to tribal people.
Tipra Motha Party won 3,428 of the 4,594 seats reported in the results, or 74.61 per cent.
The BJP won 859 seats, the CPI (M) 87, the IPFT 33, Congress 14, and Independents 173.
