Telangana CM Announces New Law on Religion Insults
The Chief Minister of Telangana, Revanth Reddy, announced a new law to punish people who insult any religion.
He made this announcement at a Christmas event in Hyderabad.
The law is expected to be introduced in the next budget session of the Assembly.
Reddy also mentioned that minorities should benefit from welfare schemes and promised to address long-pending issues related to graveyards for Christians and Muslims.
He credited Sonia Gandhi for the Christmas celebrations in Telangana, which sparked a backlash from opposition parties like the BJP and BRS.
They criticized his remarks as sycophancy and political bootlicking.
The BJP state president, N. Ramchander Rao, called BRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao a 'one-time password' in the state, saying his impact had weakened.
