Orange Alert Warns South Bengal Districts of Heavy Rain
Weather officials have warned that several parts of West Bengal could receive very heavy rain.
They issued an orange alert, which means people should be especially careful.
Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible in many districts.
The rain is linked to a low-pressure area and the movement of the monsoon trough.
Rain is expected in many places until Wednesday.
Kolkata may get rain and thunderstorms, but heavy rain is not expected there for now.
North Bengal districts such as Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar are also under heavy-rain warnings.
The report lists seven south Bengal districts while calling them six, so the exact count is unclear.
The Met Department issued an orange alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms across parts of south Bengal.
Heavy rain is forecast in several districts, including East Burdwan, West Burdwan, Birbhum, Nadia, Murshidabad, North 24 Parganas and Hooghly, though the report describes them as six districts.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected across much of south Bengal through Wednesday, with additional warnings for East Midnapore, West Midnapore, Jhargram, Purulia and Bankura.
Kolkata is not expected to receive heavy rain, but scattered thunderstorms, light to moderate rain and gusty winds may continue through Wednesday.
