Trump Aide Navarro Says Indians 'Firebombed' Him Online
Peter Navarro is the president's special helper for trade with other countries.
He was upset that India was buying oil from Russia, because that money can help Russia fight a war.
He said some unkind things about India and called it names.
Many people in India got angry and made fun of him online with jokes and pictures.
Navarro said he felt 'firebombed' by all the angry messages and asked people to stop.
One comment he made about a group called 'Brahmins' made many people in India especially upset.
Navarro also complained that people were using fact-check notes on the social media site X to correct his posts.
Most people who voted in his online poll disagreed with him.
The Indian government said his statements were not accurate and were misleading.
Navarro believes his own newspaper article may have helped India buy less Russian oil.
White House trade adviser Peter Navarro claimed he was 'firebombed' by the 'Indian continent' online with 'nasty little attacks' over his criticism of India's trade policies and Russian oil purchases.
Navarro has repeatedly accused India of helping finance Russia's war in Ukraine through Russian oil purchases, calling the country the 'Maharaja of tariffs' and a 'laundromat for the Kremlin.'
In August 2025, Navarro accused 'Brahmins' of profiteering from India's Russia trade on Fox News, triggering widespread condemnation and mocking memes, including images of Vladimir Putin as 'Vladimir Pandey.'
Navarro accused Indian users of being 'keyboard minions' using X's Community Notes to 'bury' facts; his poll on Community Notes backfired, with roughly 75-79 percent voting against his premise.
India's External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called Navarro's statements 'inaccurate and misleading,' while Navarro claimed his Financial Times op-ed helped reduce India's Russian oil purchases.
