Maharashtra Seeks Consensus On APMC Reforms And Trader Demands

Maharashtra’s government is discussing how agricultural markets should work.

These markets are called APMCs.

Traders say some fees and taxes make business harder.

They want certain charges removed or replaced and want clearer rules.

Marketing Minister Jaykumar Rawal said the government will meet traders and market committees to find agreement.

He said farmers, traders and shoppers should all be considered.

The government does not think completely removing the market cess is necessarily practical.

It will instead study other options and possible double taxation.

Some APMC services will gradually become available online to make them clearer and easier to use.
