Nuclear scientist and communist ideologue M P Parameswaran dies
There was a very clever man named Dr M P Parameswaran who studied nuclear energy and worked at a big research centre called BARC.
He was born in a small village in Kerala, India, in 1935, and went to Russia to learn about nuclear engineering.
Later, he left his scientist job to teach science to ordinary people.
He helped start groups that spread science knowledge and reading across the country.
He also had big ideas about how the world should be run, which he called the 'fourth world'.
These ideas mixed caring for nature, people's rights, and everyone having a say in decisions.
Some leaders in his political party did not agree with his ideas, so he had to leave the party.
He won many awards, including one from the Kerala government in 2022.
He died at his home in Thrissur, and many people remember his work.
Dr M P Parameswaran, renowned nuclear scientist and former BARC scientist, died at his residence in Thrissur, Kerala, on Tuesday.
He worked at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre from 1957 to 1975 before leaving to join people's movements.
He played key roles in the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad, Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti, All India People's Science Network and Kerala's literacy movement.
His 'fourth world' concept, blending Marxism, the green movement, human rights, participatory democracy and Gandhian thought, led to his expulsion from the CPI(M).
He received several honours including the Kerala Sree award in 2022; articles differ on his age at death, reporting 91 and 92.
