BJP, PMK Criticize DMK Over High Liquor Sales
The BJP and PMK leaders are upset with the DMK government in Tamil Nadu.
They say the government is selling a lot of liquor during the Pongal festival.
The leaders think this is bad because the government promised to stop drugs but is now selling lots of alcohol.
They also say the government is taking back the money it gave to people as Pongal gifts by making them spend on liquor.
The leaders point out that liquor sales grew more than the state's economy.
BJP and PMK criticized the DMK government for promoting liquor sales during Pongal.
Liquor sales in Tamil Nadu reached Rs 518 crore during the Pongal festival.
BJP leader Nainar Nagenthiran alleged that the Pongal gift money was taken back through liquor sales.
PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss noted that liquor sales grew by 14.10 percent, higher than the state's economic growth of 11.19 percent.
Both leaders accused the DMK government of using liquor sales to offset the cost of Pongal gifts.
