Assam to Build Wetland Reservoirs to Combat Flooding
Assam is building special water storage areas, called wetland reservoirs, to help stop floods.
These reservoirs will catch extra water from the Brahmaputra River and its branches.
The government has approved the plan and is starting with 15 locations.
They are also building stronger walls (embankments) to protect against floods.
This project aims to protect people, create farming land, and provide places to fish.
Assam will build 15 wetland reservoirs in flood-prone districts.
The project received approval and funding from the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The first phase will include sites in Sonitpur, Jorhat, Golaghat, and other districts.
The project aims to mitigate floods and offer opportunities for agriculture and fisheries.
New embankment technology is also being used to strengthen flood defenses.
