ED to Resolve Old FERA Cases
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in India is working to finish up old cases that were started under a law called FERA.
This law was replaced by a new one called FEMA more than 20 years ago.
The ED has found about 400-500 cases that can be closed quickly.
Some people involved in these cases have passed away or can't be found, and some of the things being investigated no longer exist.
The ED wants to finish these cases by the first part of 2026.
The director of the ED, Rahul Navin, has told his team to hurry up and finish these old cases.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is resolving pending cases under the repealed Foreign Exchange Regulation Act (FERA).
FERA was replaced by the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) in 2000.
About 400-500 cases are being identified for fast-tracked closure due to various reasons like death or untraceability of individuals or liquidation of assets.
The ED aims to complete the resolution of these cases by the first quarter of 2026.
ED director Rahul Navin has emphasized the need to complete the lifecycle of all pending FERA cases.
