IndiGo Cancels 159 Flights, Faces ₹500 Crore Compensation
IndiGo, a big airline in India, had to cancel 159 flights on Friday from Delhi and Bengaluru airports because they didn't have enough pilots.
They also cancelled over 200 flights the day before.
The government's aviation safety team, called the DGCA, is investigating why this happened.
They set up a special team to find out the problems with how the airline plans and schedules its pilots.
IndiGo is also working with an outside expert to figure out what went wrong.
The airline is still flying some flights, but not as many as usual.
The government also removed four people who check if airlines are following the rules because of these problems.
IndiGo said they will pay over ₹500 crore to customers who were severely affected by the cancellations.
They will start giving this money back in January.
The airline is also trying to make sure all refunds are processed quickly.
IndiGo cancelled 159 flights on Friday from Delhi and Bengaluru airports due to ongoing disruptions.
The DGCA has set up a four-member panel to investigate the root causes of the operational disruptions.
IndiGo's CEO and COO appeared before the DGCA panel for the second time.
The airline has appointed an external aviation expert, Aviation Advisors LLC, to conduct a root-cause analysis.
The DGCA has sacked four Flight Operations Inspectors over the disruptions.
