West UP Towns Face Severe Air Pollution, Baghpat Records Highest AQI
The air in several towns in Western Uttar Pradesh has become very polluted, with Baghpat having the worst air quality.
This pollution is so bad that it's being compared to Delhi's air.
Health officials are telling people, especially older adults and children, to wear masks if they have to go outside because it can make it hard to breathe.
To help reduce the pollution caused by farmers burning leftover crops, the government has a plan where they give farmers cow dung fertilizer in exchange for the crop residue.
This way, farmers don't burn it, and the cow dung fertilizer can be used.
Authorities are also watching out for older cars and big construction projects that might be adding to the pollution.
Several towns in Western Uttar Pradesh, including Baghpat, are experiencing severe air pollution with AQI levels above 300.
Baghpat recorded the highest AQI at 381, surpassing Delhi's AQI of 362 at 4 pm on Monday.
Health officials are advising vulnerable populations, such as the elderly and children, to avoid going outdoors or wear masks due to the poor air quality.
The Uttar Pradesh Animal Husbandry Department is promoting a barter scheme to exchange cow dung fertilizer for stubble, aiming to reduce crop burning.
Authorities are also monitoring vehicular movement of older vehicles and large-scale constructions to help mitigate pollution.
