US Cracks Down on Birth Tourism
The United States has announced that it will deny tourist visa applications if it believes the main reason for the trip is to give birth in the US.
This is because the child would automatically get US citizenship.
The US government says this is not allowed and is a misuse of the visa system.
They also mentioned that this could make American taxpayers pay for the medical costs.
President Donald Trump has been working to stop this practice, known as birth tourism.
He even signed an order to end birthright citizenship, which is the rule that gives citizenship to anyone born in the US.
This order is still being reviewed by the courts.
The US Embassy in India has also warned about this new rule.
US will deny tourist visas if the primary purpose is to give birth for citizenship.
Birth tourism is considered a misuse of visitor visas and US immigration laws.
President Trump signed an executive order to end birthright citizenship, challenging the 14th Amendment.
The order is under judicial review and has not been implemented yet.
US Embassy in India reiterated the policy, warning against birth tourism and stricter visa scrutiny.
