Kutch’s Banni Grasslands: A Wildlife Landscape Under Pressure

Kutch’s Banni Grasslands: A Wildlife Landscape Under Pressure

Kutch is a region with many kinds of landscapes.

These include a salt desert, grasslands and wetlands.

One grassland area is called Banni.

It covers about 3,800 square kilometres.

In summer, the grass can look pale and the ground can become cracked and salty.

Seasonal wetlands dry up as the weather gets hotter.

Wildlife photographer Ashok Chaudhary has photographed Kutch for 25 years.

He says he last photographed the only surviving male Great Indian Bustard in Kutch.

The article headline asks what could be lost if green energy is built in the wrong places, but this excerpt does not explain those impacts.
