Ex-Big Bash Cricketer Aaron Summers Jailed for Abusing Teen Fan
A cricket player named Aaron Summers did something very wrong.
When he was 21, he met a 15-year-old girl at a cricket game in Hobart, Australia.
He talked to her online and then drove her to a school at night.
There, he hurt her in a way that is against the law, and this is called abuse.
The girl was still in Grade 9 or 10 and did not understand what he wanted.
A judge named Helen Wood said Summers used his fame as a sports player to get close to young people.
Summers admitted he was guilty of the crimes.
A judge sent him to prison for 10 months for what he did.
He had already been in prison before for similar crimes in the Northern Territory.
The court's decision shows that hurting young people is never okay.
Former Hobart Hurricanes and Big Bash League cricketer Aaron Summers was jailed for 10 months for abusing a teenage fan.
Summers groomed and twice sexually abused a 15-year-old girl he met at a game in Hobart in December 2017; the abuse occurred at a school in January 2018.
Tasmanian Supreme Court Justice Helen Wood said Summers used his profile as a sportsperson to gain access to young people and knew the girl was below the age of sexual consent.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of penetrative sexual abuse of a child and one count of grooming a child with intent to expose them to indecent material.
Summers was extradited to Tasmania from the Northern Territory, where he had already served three years and 11 months in prison for child exploitation material offences.
