Vitamin B12: Not Vegetarian or Non-Vegetarian, Says Surgeon
Dr. Anshuman Kaushal, a doctor who specializes in stomach and intestine surgeries, made a post on social media to explain something interesting about Vitamin B12.
He said that Vitamin B12 is not made by animals, but by tiny bacteria.
Animals just store the vitamin in their bodies after absorbing it from these bacteria.
This is why foods from animals have a lot of Vitamin B12, even though the animals themselves don't make it.
So, Dr. Kaushal says Vitamin B12 can't be called vegetarian or non-vegetarian because it's made by bacteria, not animals.
Dr. Anshuman Kaushal, a Robotic GI Surgeon, addressed the debate on Vitamin B12's classification as vegetarian or non-vegetarian.
He explained that Vitamin B12 is produced by bacteria, not animals, which merely store it.
Animal-based foods are rich in Vitamin B12 because animals absorb it from bacteria in their gut.
Dr. Kaushal clarified that Vitamin B12 cannot be labeled as vegetarian or non-vegetarian.
The debate was stirred on social media, and Dr. Kaushal's post aimed to settle it.
