Next Tata Chairman Faces Toughest Job, Management Professor Warns

Tata is one of India's biggest business groups, with companies that make cars, steel, software and many other things.

The person in charge is called the chairman, like the captain of a team.

Recently, the chairman named N Chandrasekaran said he would step down because not enough board members supported him.

Before that, the chairman of Tata Trusts, Noel Tata, said he was worried about how the group was doing.

Tata Trusts is a special foundation that owns a big part of the group.

Now Tata has to choose a new captain.

A professor named Vijay Govindarajan says the new leader will have a very hard job.

The new chairman will have to decide what to keep, what to change and where to spend the group's money.

The professor says the new leader should not pretend that the software company TCS will earn the same money forever.

He thinks the next chairman should probably come from inside Tata, like T V Narendran, because that person already knows the group well.
