Labour Codes to Be Fully Operational from April 1, 2026
The Indian government is planning to fully implement four new labour codes starting April 1, 2026.
These codes will replace 29 old laws with a single, modern framework.
The codes include rules about wages, industrial relations, social security, and workplace safety.
The government will first ask the public for their opinions on the rules before making them final.
The new laws will ensure workers have an 8-hour workday, options for overtime, and benefits like health check-ups and equal pay.
The goal is to provide social security to 100 crore workers by March 2026, up from the current 94 crore.
