Delhi High Court halts Ajmer Sharif Dargah demolitions
The Delhi High Court has stopped the government from demolishing buildings in the Ajmer Sharif Dargah without first talking to the people affected.
The court said that the government must follow the rules of fairness and give everyone a chance to speak before taking any action.
A man named Syed Meharaj Miya, who works at the Dargah, asked the court to stop the government from removing buildings that he says are not illegal.
The court also told the government to quickly form a committee to manage the Dargah, as required by law.
The court will hear more about this case on February 23, 2026.
Delhi High Court restrains Centre from demolishing structures in Ajmer Sharif Dargah without hearing affected persons.
Court directs Centre to expedite formation of Dargah Committee as per the Dargah Khawaja Sahib Act, 1955.
Petition filed by Syed Meharaj Miya, a Khadim of the Dargah, challenging the Ministry of Minority Affairs' notice.
Court argues that administrative powers are vested in the Dargah Committee, not the Nazim.
Next hearing scheduled for February 23, 2026, with the Centre required to respond within four weeks.
