Amnesty Calls for War Crimes Probe Over Mali Soldier Killings
A group called Amnesty International says that at least 19 soldiers in Mali were killed after an ambush on July 18.
They want an investigation because the killings look like war crimes.
The soldiers were captured and then killed.
Mali’s military says the videos are fake and that the soldiers won the fight.
The United Nations also wants to look into it.
The attack is part of a series of attacks by two rebel groups, the Azawad Liberation Front and JNIM, that are trying to take control of towns in Mali.
The situation is making it hard for Mali’s government to keep the country safe.
Amnesty International demands a war crimes investigation into alleged summary killings of at least 19 Malian soldiers on July 18.
The incident occurred between Anefis and Gao in northern Mali, involving the Azawad Liberation Front and JNIM.
Mali’s military statement downplays the event, labeling it a “supposed military victory” and denying the killings.
The U.N. human rights office also calls for an investigation, citing possible war crime.
The ambush is part of a series of escalating attacks by FLA and JNIM threatening Mali’s security.
