Jaishankar on India's Defence and Neighbourhood Policy
S. Jaishankar, India's External Affairs Minister, gave a speech at IIT Madras.
He talked about how India deals with its neighbours.
He said India has both good and bad neighbours.
Good neighbours are those who are kind and helpful, and India tries to support them.
Bad neighbours are those who cause trouble, like by supporting terrorism.
Jaishankar said India has the right to defend itself against terrorism and that no one can tell India how to do that.
He also mentioned that India's growth helps the whole region grow too.
Jaishankar believes in the idea that the world is like a family, and India tries to solve problems by using its strengths and working with others.
India will defend itself against terrorism from 'bad neighbours' and no one can dictate how India exercises its defence.
India's neighbourhood policy distinguishes between good neighbours, who are kind and helpful, and bad neighbours, who cause trouble.
India's growth benefits the entire region, and most neighbours understand this.
India's foreign policy is guided by the philosophy of 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam', which means the world is a family.
India has provided support to friendly neighbours, such as supplying vaccines during the Covid-19 pandemic and aid to Sri Lanka during its economic crisis.
