Forum Urges Faster Shift Toward Circular Industrial Economy
The World Circular Economy Forum 2026 discussed how to use materials again instead of throwing them away.
Speakers said this work should begin when products are designed, not only after products become waste.
They want products to last longer and be easier to recycle.
Businesses could create new markets from materials that are currently treated as waste.
The speakers said money, technology, skills and cooperation will be needed.
Gujarat proposed a common international system for certifying recycled materials.
Finland said it would invest 120 million euros in a financing organization.
The forum also discussed using treated wastewater and waste to produce renewable energy.
The next sessions will focus on turning these ideas into practical projects.
The World Circular Economy Forum 2026 called for treating circularity as an industrial and investment strategy, not only a waste-management approach.
Participants emphasized designing products for longer use and recyclability from the beginning of their life cycle.
Speakers identified finance, digital technology, skills, entrepreneurship and value-chain partnerships as essential to scaling circular solutions.
Gujarat called for international certification of secondary raw materials and wider sharing of recycling and clean technologies.
Finland announced a 120 million euro investment to support critical minerals, digital infrastructure, municipal infrastructure, energy networks and storage.
