Bharat Taxi App in Testing Phase
The Indian government is testing a new app called Bharat Taxi App to help taxi drivers.
This app is different because it's run by a cooperative, meaning the drivers own and manage it together.
The government made new rules to make sure the app is fair.
These rules say that the app can charge up to twice the normal price during busy times, but drivers get to keep most of the money.
The state governments will give licenses to these apps.
The goal is to make sure there are enough taxis when lots of people need them and to keep prices fair.
Bharat Taxi App is in testing phase to support driver-owned taxi services.
App is developed under Sahahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited (STCL) with NCDC's support.
New guidelines allow dynamic pricing but cap surge pricing at twice the base fare.
Drivers earn 80% of fare for owned vehicles and 60% for aggregator-owned vehicles.
State governments are responsible for issuing licenses to aggregators.
