Mumbai: BMC to Procure Beach Cleaning Machines at ₹27.5 Crore
Mumbai's city government is going to buy new machines to clean up the beaches like Juhu, Dadar, and Mahim.
They will hire a company to provide and maintain these machines for six years, costing around ₹27.52 crore.
This is because a lot of garbage, about 100 metric tons, washes up on the beaches every day.
The city used to hire companies to clean the beaches, but now they are going back to using contractors to provide and maintain the machines.
One company, M/s Ram Engineering, won the bid by offering a lower price than expected.
BMC will buy beach cleaning machinery for Juhu, Dadar, and Mahim beaches.
A six-year contract worth ₹27.52 crore will be awarded to a contractor for machinery supply and maintenance.
Mumbai's 34 km coastline attracts many visitors, with approximately 100 metric tons of garbage washing ashore daily.
BMC previously used contractors, but since the contracts expired, it has been maintaining beaches in-house.
M/s Ram Engineering won the bid, offering 19% below the BMC's estimated rate.
