ED Arrests Key Accused in Cyber Fraud Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested a woman named Rumi Kalita for her involvement in a cyber fraud case.
The fraudsters pretended to be officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and tricked a businessman named S P Oswal into transferring ₹7 crore.
The ED found out that the money was then moved through many different accounts to hide it.
They also found important documents and digital devices during their searches in five states.
The ED is still investigating to find out more about the fraud and who else might be involved.
ED arrested Rumi Kalita under the PMLA, 2002, for her role in a cyber fraud case involving Vardhman Group chairman S P Oswal.
Searches were conducted at 11 locations across Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Assam, leading to the seizure of incriminating documents and digital devices.
Fraudsters impersonated CBI officials and coerced Oswal into transferring ₹7 crore, of which ₹5.24 crore has been recovered.
The remaining amount was diverted through multiple mule accounts operated by a group of individuals, including Kalita.
