Bengal Suspends Officers Over Past Police Misconduct

Bengal Suspends Officers Over Past Police Misconduct

The new BJP government in West Bengal has suspended several police officers for their alleged roles in controversial incidents that happened under the previous TMC government.

These incidents include the shooting of a youth named Mrityunjay Barman, the harassment of a former IPS officer, a police lathi-charge during a religious procession, and the controversial transportation of a religious idol in a prison van.

The chief minister, Suvendu Adhikari, announced these suspensions in the state assembly, emphasizing a policy of zero tolerance towards police excesses.

The previous TMC government has denied allegations of misusing police powers, maintaining that their actions were lawful.

The BJP government aims to review more such cases to ensure accountability and transparency.
